DOE Routers POC Completion Deployment POC Landis + Gyr

DOE grant

In March 2010, CoServ Electric’s board of directors approved plans to accept the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) $17.2 million grant supporting installation of the cooperative’s advanced metering infrastructure project. On March 29, CoServ Electric Board Chairman Leon Pelzel signed the grant agreement, and effective April 2, the DOE executed the official documents.

Landis+Gyr contract signed

On August 17, CoServ Electric selected Landis+Gyr to deploy an advanced metering solution for its 130,000+ members. The system is the foundation for a new CoServ Electric distribution technology initiative called the CoServ eCoGrid, that consists of a robust two-way communications network, advanced metering, distribution automation and personal energy management applications.

Router/collector installation begins (proof of concept)

On October 4, CoServ Electric and its Landis+Gyr contractor will begin site surveys in the proof of concept area to determine placement of routers and collectors that are part of the two-way communications network, advanced metering, and distribution automation system.

Meter installation begins (proof of concept)

In March 2011, CoServ Electric will begin installation of individual meters in the proof of concept area. Special meter installation processes will be offered for businesses and critical care accounts. Watch the Meter Change-out process video.

System testing

Once all meters scheduled for the proof of concept are deployed, comprehensive testing of the communications system will commence. Meter reading accuracy is expected to exceed 99.67 percent.

Full system deployment begins

In February 2012, full system deployment is scheduled to commence. Members will be notified in advance of the deployment plan, and once all meters are installed, pilot programs for personal energy management will be explored.

Project completion

The CoServ eCoGrid project is expected to be complete later in 2013. Watch the videos to learn more about the system and member benefits.
