Gas Rates

Keep in mind that CoServ Gas, like other Texas gas utilities, does not mark up the price of natural gas for a profit. Rather, our revenue comes from the cost of delivering gas to your home or business.

In 2008, you may have read that CoServ Gas was in negotiations to come to a collective agreement on a new gas rate for CoServ Gas customers.

For customers who live inside city limits: Effective October 1, you will see a couple of line items displayed differently on your bill:
• The Customer Charge will decrease $2 per month to $7 for residential and to $13.50 for commercial.
• Your Ccf usage charge will be calculated as a flat rate instead of the tiered approach used in the past.

Weather Normalization Adjustment (WNA):

Another change that you will notice in your November through May billing period is a line item called the Weather Normalization Adjustment (WNA) – which affects the monthly Ccf usage charge. This calculation is quickly becoming standard within the natural gas utility industry and protects both the customer and the gas provider. The calculation is based on normal temperatures, and it provides an adjustment if temperatures are colder or warmer than normal. When weather is colder than normal, the WNA will reduce the Ccf usage charge to a normal level. When weather is warmer than normal, it will increase the Ccf usage charge to a normal level. Below is a chart that illustrates how the WNA balances the effect of weather on your bill:

Please know we’re doing everything we can to limit the effect on your bill and estimate that the October 2009 increase will amount to approximately 2.7 percent overall.  Read more details about your CoServ Gas bill and payment options.
