Members elect Mark Rutledge to CoServ Electric Board of Directors

CORINTH, Texas — September 24, 2020 —CoServ Members have elected Mark Rutledge to the CoServ Electric Board of Directors. The District 4 Runoff Election result was announced at a special Member meeting streamed online today from the electric cooperative’s headquarters and conducted without public attendance because of COVID-19 precautions.

A total of 6,786 Members voted in the election. Mr. Rutledge of Little Elm received 4,016 votes, and Patrick Wamhoff of Frisco received 2,770 votes. Since Mr. Rutledge received a majority of the votes, he is elected to the Board for a three-year term.

At the CoServ Electric Annual Meeting in July, none of the District 4 candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote. Pursuant to CoServ’s Bylaws, a special meeting of the Members was called for the purpose of conducting a runoff election between the two candidates who received the most votes.

“Democratic Member Control is one of the main principles of electric cooperatives,” said Donnie Clary, President and CEO of CoServ. “We’re owned by the Members we serve, and they decide who serves them on the Board.”

CoServ Members voted via mail-in ballots distributed in the September 2020 edition of Texas Co-op Power magazine. The ballots were collected and tabulated, and the voting results were certified, by an independent Election Official, the law firm of Richards, Elder & Gibson, PLLC, of Lubbock, with assistance from the election firm Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS).
