CoServ awards Roman Juarez scholarship to Sanger graduate

The memory of longtime Sanger resident and CoServ lineman Roman Juarez lives on with the awarding of the Roman Juarez Memorial Scholarship each year to a deserving Sanger High School graduate.
CoServ Vice President of Field Operations Shea Hassell presented Sanger High School senior Gabrianna Giddens with the scholarship just before graduation last month. The funds will help Gabrianna as she studies at Texas State University in San Marcos this fall.
Roman was responding to an outage when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver on May 13, 2007, just a few weeks before his 42nd birthday. CoServ also named a substation in Roman’s honor.
The scholarship was established by CoServ in 2008. In 2017, Roman's family combined their scholarship with CoServ's. CoServ funds the entire scholarship. Criteria for the scholarship include being in good standing academically while also participating in athletics. For more information visit sangereducationfoundation.org or call 940-600-8890.
