Since 1997, Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas has helped thousands of abused children tell their story in a comfortable, safe environment. Their mission is to “empower child abuse victims, their families and our community through education, healing and justice.”

In addition to the hardworking professionals that interact with the clients, the nonprofits also relies on two maintenance employees to maintain the landscaping, make repairs, move furniture, paint the walls—any work that needs to be done at their three locations. They’re often the unsung heroes of this critical nonprofit, driving more than 50 miles one way in their personal vehicles between the Lewisville, Denton and Bridgeport locations, said Suzann Woodard, Director of Development.

“It was rough for our facility folks because they didn’t have vehicles big enough to load big things,” Suzann said.

Suzann said she’s always had a good relationship with CoServ so she reached out to the electric co-op to see if we had any vehicles we could retire from our fleet. Luckily, Glen Squibb, CoServ’s Director of Community Engagement, and Tim Meyer, CoServ’s Fleet Manager, found that we did have a truck we’d be retiring soon that would perfectly fit their needs.

On April 6, Glen, Tim and other CoServ Employees officially donated the truck. It was an emotional moment for the maintenance workers.

“This was truly a gamechanger for us being able to maintain the facilities that we have to serve the kids,” Suzann said. “It took a lot of stress off our maintenance workers. Now they know not only does the center have their backs, but the community does too, and what they do directly influences the kiddos. They’re definitely a part of the team. For them to get a gift like this was a special moment.”

The CAC is also serving children in Jack County and plans to build a facility there, which further underscores the need for the truck.

“The Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas is an organization that is committed to protecting and helping children who have suffered abuse and neglect,” Glen said. “It is an honor to be able to contribute to their cause by providing them with this maintenance truck. As we power the community through this donation, we hope to inspire others to join us in supporting causes that make a positive impact in the lives of those around us.”
