From engineers to project managers, linemen and gas technicians, the process to receive CoServ electric and gas service goes through a number of departments here at CoServ.

One thing every meter has in common – whether it’s a 200-amp electric meter for a single-family home or a large, 1000-diaphragm gas meter for a new restaurant – the service orders all funnel through CoServ’s Development Services and Logistics Team.

This team of seven handles over 150 phone calls and 200 emails per day from electrical contractors, Members, developers, and other CoServ departments to schedule the placement of temporary and permanent meters.

The last thing they want is to send a meter technician to a site that is not ready. It’s critical that they take detailed notes, stay organized and ask the right questions while juggling dozens of projects per day.

“We serve as the central communication link between engineering and construction – truly the backbone of the operation,” said Bailee Hill, Service and Logistics Coordinator 3. “Whether it’s electricians and builders or Members or Generation contractors, we coordinate with all necessary parties to ensure service is ready and on schedule.”

One address requires multiple service orders. For example, the temporary electric meter is set during construction, then the permanent meter is installed when the home or business is nearing completion. In the first quarter, the Service & Logistics Team processed an average of 2,800 service orders per month.

“It’s cool to think about how many meters we actually set,” said Soledad Johnson, Service & Logistics Coordinator 3. “This is the beginning of everything.”

Time is of the essence for these projects. CoServ wants homeowners to move in and businesses to be able to open without delays.

The job has its share of challenges, but Kat Harper, Service & Logistics Coordinator, said they go above and beyond to help Customers.

“A lot of it is explaining to them all the things that need to happen before a building is ready for electricity or natural gas connections,” Kat said. “We want to verify that all work on both sides of the meter is done before we send someone to install the meter to ensure everything is done safely.”

CoServ officially surpassed the 500,000 combined meter mark in June, something that wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the Development Services and Logistics Team.

“It’s such an agile environment and that’s what I like about it,” Bailee said. “We all take pride in what we do because it helps keep the co-op’s growth moving forward.”
