Boys & Girls Club Rec Center Scores with Assist from CCF
Lives are being transformed every day at the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County in downtown Plano. Hundreds of children from 15 different schools rotate through various activities every week, including homework assistance, social and life skills, STEM training and career readiness.
But it’s not all work. Perhaps the most popular area is the recreation center where they have various arcade-style video games, a pool table and other fun games.
However, the equipment takes a beating, especially during the summer when more than 200 children a day come through. Some things started breaking, leaving the children with fewer options during their recreation time.
But new commercial-grade replacements weren’t in the Boys & Girls Club budget.
Fortunately, there are thousands of CoServ Members and Customers who participate in Operation Roundup, rounding up their electric and gas bills to the nearest dollar every month to support the CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF).
These generous people made it possible for the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County to apply for a CCF grant to buy new gaming equipment.
CoServ recently toured the downtown Plano location to see everything they do for the community. As part of the tour, they showed off what they purchased with the grant, including two arcade-quality bubble hockey tables, commercial-grade ping pong table and special a no-sting dodgeball set. The lounge now also features a new Nintendo Switch 2, an Xbox One and other gaming accessories.
“We were able to get state-of-the-art equipment,” said Darion McCoy, Director of Community and Program Engagement for the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County. “This is where all the action takes place. Their eyes light up when they see this.”
Darion loves talking about his success stories, the children who go through the program, graduate high school then come back to mentor the next generation of children.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Collin County plays a critical role in guiding children to the right path to success,” said CCF and Outreach Coordinator Jennifer Ebert. “A big part of that is having some down time for recreational fun, which is exactly what this grant provides.”
Thank you to all CoServ Members and Customers who participate in Operation Roundup to make grants like this possible. Though it’s just pennies per month, or an average of $6 per year, your contribution has a massive impact in the communities where we all live.
