The Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) will be giving out hundreds of turkeys with all the sides next week at the C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in North Denton.

Stephen Raeside, Chief Development Officer and External Affairs Officer for TAFB, said they had nearly 1,400 families show up at the October distribution, and they expect similar numbers, if not more, on Nov. 25, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Thanks to CoServ Members and Customers who participate in Operation Roundup, the CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) has ensured that happens.

CCF presented a $25,000 grant to the Tarrant Area Food Bank on Nov. 12. Generally, every dollar pays for five meals, though the Thanksgiving meals cost a little more, Stephen said.

“It’s very timely. The need has just soared in the last few weeks with the government shutdown,” he said. “We have 45,000 federal workers in our service area.”

Though the federal government shutdown ended, it could take time restore full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank’s service area expanded this year to include areas east of Interstate 35E.

“This will go a long way toward establishing that brand awareness,” Stephen said.

The CoServ Charitable Foundation’s partnership with the Tarrant Area Food Bank will be more critical moving forward as their service area now includes even more CoServ Electric Members and Gas Customers in eastern Denton County.

“We know costs are going up and many of our neighbors are struggling this holiday season,” said Jennifer Ebert, CCF and Outreach Coordinator. “Everyone who participates in Operation Roundup donates some change every month to make a difference in their community. This grant to the Tarrant Area Food Bank is representative of the best part of the CoServ Advantage, neighbors helping neighbors!”
