Curtis Tally meant so much to so many people in the Justin community.

At CoServ, we were honored to have him serve on our Board of Directors for 22 years, leaving an impact that will go on for decades afterwards.

To many, he’s remembered as the owner of the Justin Seed Company, a staple in the agricultural town since 1958. He was also the chairman of the board of Justin State Bank.

Outside of work, he volunteered his time delivering delivered Meals on Wheels around Justin for 35 years, bringing not only a warm meal but a bright smiling face and listening ear.

No matter how you knew Curtis, his reputation as a caring, humble and selfless servant followed him wherever he went.

Edward Curtis Tally II was born on Aug. 23, 1936 in Justin. He passed away on Jan. 1 at age 89. CoServ mourns the loss of this Justin icon and will fly our flags at half-mast through Jan. 12. He’s remembered as a man of faith, a loyal husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a trusted businessman, agricultural pioneer, veteran and pilot.

"I'm just a normal guy that the Lord really blessed," Curtis said in a 2021 interview.

Looking back at his contributions to CoServ, Curtis was proud of his role in creating Operation Roundup to fund the CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF). He got the idea while attending a cooperative conference. Over the years, Operation Roundup has raised more than $19 million to fund grants to nonprofits in North Texas. The impact of those dollars, and the money generously donated by Members and Customers in future years, will be impossible to measure.

Curtis was always on the cutting edge. He was instrumental in CoServ’s decision to become one of the first co-ops to have its own solar farm.

He leaves behind his wife Oneta, of 67 years, his daughter Karen and son and daughter-in-law Tracy and Julie. He has nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Justin Baptist Church from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9. Memorial services will be at Justin Baptist Church starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
