This summer, CoServ will deliver 70 air condition units and 212 fans to seven social service agencies across North Texas. The agencies then distribute them to clients in need who are also CoServ Members.

CoServ expedited the first delivery of the year to Frisco Family Services Tuesday after learning the agency had a client with cancer in desperate need of a fan. Frisco Family Services helps 25 to 30 clients a day with food from their market as well as utility bills and rent assistance. Now those clients can also pick up an oscillating pedestal fan.

“It’s for people who are having issues with being able to cover their utilities or their air conditioner may not be working so well,” said William Lunz, Food Market Manager at Frisco Family Services. “It’s 105 degrees every day. Even with a working AC unit, it’s hard to keep up. They need air flow. Maybe they can raise the thermostat a few extra degrees by offsetting it with the fan.”

Other agencies receiving fans or AC units include All Community Outreach, Christian Community Action, Community Lifeline Center, Texas Neighborhood Services, Texoma Council of Governments and Volunteers in Service to Others (VISTO).

It’s a summer tradition at CoServ going back several years. CoServ pairs that with the delivery of blankets and space heaters in the winter so Members can stay comfortable and safe year-round.

“This extreme heat and humidity affects everyone  -- even a short walk in the parking lot to your car feels like stepping into an oven,” said Glen Squibb, Director of Community Engagement. “Also, many of our neighbors are already struggling financially, and this heat puts an extra burden on them so they can’t feel comfortable in their homes. We hope these AC units and fans bring relief to North Texans who need it.”

Thank you to all CoServ Members and Customers who participate in Operation Roundup, which helps the CoServ Charitable Foundation fund the donation of these fans and air condition units. By donating pennies every month, you’re helping your neighbor stay cool in the extreme heat.
