COSERV LINEMEN WORK EVERY DAY to keep the lights on for Members. But did you know they also make children’s faces light up by visiting schools in your community?

CoServ is a big believer in academic initiatives and inspiring the next generation. From seeing a bucket truck up close to trying on safety equipment, it’s a thrill for children and a great way for linemen to give back.

“I enjoy doing this and giving back to the kids, I have a kid at home,” said Grant Cook, a Lineman Class C2. “Seeing the kids’ faces light up whenever they come and see us, it means a lot.”

“We also believe it’s important to reinforce safety lessons and educate children about what they do and, hopefully, inspire the next generation to become lineworkers, too.”

Grant and Journeyman Lineman Ethan Scheffler are a great team together, whether they’re putting up new utility poles and wires at a horse ranch (see article on page 18) or teaching children about electrical safety. They visited the Calhoun Early Childhood School in Prosper ISD earlier this year to show the students what they do and the tools they use.

The first thing that catches the children’s eye is the bucket truck. Other tools of the trade include the insulated extendo stick, which helps linemen to open and close switches atop the pole and switches from the ground. They showed off their climbing belt, gaffs and other safety equipment used to climb poles.

One of the highlights is when the children try on the thick, insulated rubber gloves that linemen use when working on energized lines. The children also got to see the bucket go up in the air.

CoServ has several linemen teams who rotate visiting different schools throughout the 23 school districts we serve.

“CoServ linemen are dedicated, safety-minded professionals who work tirelessly to provide reliable power to your community,” said Cody Coulter, CoServ’s Director of Operations.
