This year’s Annual Meeting was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 1 p.m. and included a Board Director election. Per CoServ Electric's bylaws, all eligible CoServ Electric Members can submit a nomination petition to run for a Board Director seat, vote in the Board of Directors election, and attend or watch the Annual Meeting. Election results were announced during the 2026 Virtual Annual Meeting .

Each year, a District Notice will be mailed to all Members who reside within the districts whose director is up for election at the next Annual Meeting. The District Notice notifies Members that a director's term is expiring and specifies procedures on how to run for the open seat(s).

The Members elect directors for a four-year term. Two Board seats are up for election each year, except every fourth year when only one is up for election.

January 26: Record date for District Notices. (If you become a CoServ Electric Member after this date, you will not receive a District Notice.)

February 26: District Notices are mailed in the March issue of Texas Co-op Power magazine to all Members residing in Districts 2 & 7 – the districts from which a Board Director seat is up for election this year.

March 6: First day the Director petitions are available.

March 18: Members interested in running must schedule an orientation session by 5 p.m. CST.

March 20: Members interested in running must attend an orientation session and receive a director petition packet by 5 p.m. CST.

March 26: Record Date for the Annual Meeting Notice. All CoServ Members, as of the official record date, will receive a mailed ballot packet and are eligible to vote.

March 27: Director nomination petition and other required forms are due to CoServ’s corporate office by 5 p.m. CST and by appointment only.

April 6: Last day for Board Candidates to withdraw from the election. The withdrawal must be a written notice.

May 14: The Annual Meeting Notice and ballots were mailed to all eligible CoServ Electric Members (as of the record date). The third-party election firm Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS) will mail paper ballots directly to the members' homes and include a link to the secure web portal where Members may choose to cast their votes digitally.

NOTE: if a Member vote is received electronically and by mailed paper ballot, the mailed ballot will be the one that is counted.

June 4: Survey & Ballot Systems must receive ballots by 5 p.m. CST. Members may choose to vote online or mail their completed ballots using the pre-paid envelope provided by SBS.

When are CoServ Electric Board elections conducted?

Elections are held in conjunction with CoServ’s Annual Meeting, which is typically conducted in June. Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS) will mail the ballots directly to Members. The ballot packet will include a mail-in ballot as well as a link to a secure web portal where Members can choose to cast their votes digitally. See the Board Director Elections FAQ for key election dates. A candidate must receive a majority vote to be elected. If needed, runoff elections are held after the Annual Meeting on a date determined by the Board of Directors.

How do I know which Board district seats are up for election?

Each election year, a District Notice will be mailed to all Members living in the districts where a director’s seat is up for election at the next Annual Meeting. This notice will be sent 90 to 105 days before the meeting. The District Notice informs Members that a director's term is expiring and provides details on how to run for the open seat(s).

How do I become a candidate for the CoServ Electric Board of Directors?

To be a candidate, you must be a CoServ Electric Member and meet the other Director qualifications listed in our bylaws. When the Director position from the district you reside in is up for election, you may obtain a Board of Directors information packet from CoServ, which includes Director qualifications, requirements, and responsibilities. If you are interested in becoming a Director candidate after reviewing the information packet, you must participate in a Director candidate orientation session. At the orientation, you will be provided with additional information regarding the qualifications, requirements, and responsibilities of a CoServ Electric Board Director, including information on the directors nomination petition process. The petition process must be completed online, and the other required forms must be submitted to CoServ in person. See the Elections FAQ tab for key dates during the Board Director election process. The deadline to schedule an orientation session was Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 5 p.m. CST.

Who can sign the Director nomination petition?

Director nomination petitions require valid signatures from at least 25 qualified CoServ Electric Members residing within the district from which a director is nominated.

The deadline to submit a Petition for the Board Director Election was Friday, March 27, 2026, by 5 p.m. CST.

How do I know if I’m qualified to be a Director?

Section 4.6 of CoServ's Bylaws details the qualifications for a Director, including that you:

are a CoServ Electric Member in good financial standing
have been a Member for at least 24 months prior to the election
primary residence for the 24 consecutive months prior must have been within the district up for election
hold no other elected position
have never been convicted of a felony
are not a close relative of a current CoServ Employee or Board Director

Are Directors public officials?

No. CoServ Electric is not a governmental entity. Only CoServ Electric Members may vote. The election is not open to non-CoServ Members.

Who do Directors represent?

Directors represent all CoServ Electric Members. They must be nominated from the district they live in—to ensure that all geographic regions within CoServ’s service territory are represented—but the Directors are elected at-large, which means that all Members vote for them.

How are votes counted and certified?

Ballots cast by CoServ Electric Members are collected, tabulated and certified by election firm Survey & Ballot Systems. The law firm of Richards, Elder & Frost, PLLC serves as the election official to oversee the election process.

How long does a Board Director serve per term?

CoServ Board Directors are elected to four-year terms. The terms, which were expanded in 2021, will allow our Board more time to learn about the industry and put their institutional knowledge to work for the benefit of the cooperative.

What time commitment is required to serve on the Board?

Serving on the Board of Directors requires a significant time commitment. Directors are required to attend CoServ’s regular monthly board meeting, which is held during normal business hours and typically lasts most of the day. Directors are expected to spend additional time prior to the monthly meeting preparing for the meeting and staying current on industry issues. Directors will also be required to attend quarterly workshops and special meetings as called by the Chair of the Board. CoServ management provides Directors with a substantial amount of information and data that requires time to review and read. A new Director can expect to be required to spend additional time outside of the Board meetings to become familiar with the operation of the electric cooperative and the energy industry. On average, Directors spend 12 hours per week in Board meetings, preparing for Board meetings, or attending training and conferences as part of their duties as Board members.

Do Directors draw a salary?

No. However, Directors are compensated for the time they spend preparing for and attending the monthly board meeting, special meetings, and board workshops, reviewing correspondence from cooperative staff, and attending training and community functions.

What are the eligibility requirements for voting for Board Director candidates?

Our third-party election official, Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS), will mail the ballot packets to all eligible voters on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The deadline to vote is Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 5 p.m. CST.

How do I vote for Board Directors candidates?

CoServ offers two ways to vote – online or through traditional mailed paper ballots. The official election ballot will be mailed to all eligible CoServ Members no more than 30 days before the Annual Meeting. Along with the mail-in ballot, the packet will include a link to the website where Members may vote online through a secure portal set up by our third-party election official, Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS). Members may vote online or mail their completed ballot to SBS using the provided prepaid envelope.

Why should I vote for the Board Director candidates?

Board candidates are elected at large, which means that all active Members as of the record date are eligible to vote for candidates in all districts. It’s important for our Members to vote for one candidate in each District and to approve/disapprove the Annual Meeting minutes so a quorum can be established and your voice can be heard.

Each successfully completed ballot received on time will be entered into a random drawing for 50 $100 bill credits. SBS will conduct the drawing, and the winners will be announced online after the Annual Business Meeting concludes.

What happens if I mail in a ballot and vote online?

If the same Member casts votes using both an online and mail-in ballot, the election official Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS) will count the mail-in ballot as the official vote.
