Your Safety is Our Mission. Service Behind the Meter

Lantana resident Gregg Maslak was taking the trash out on a cold January night when he smelled rotten eggs, a tell-tale sign of a gas leak.

He called CoServ and soon after, Gas Technician Josh Burrus showed up and confirmed that a venting regulator on his meter was leaking gas. Despite it being after hours, Josh immediately started changing out the meter.

“It was a cold night, so I didn’t want this Customer to go without heat,” said Josh, who has since moved to a Design Tech position in the Engineering department.  “It’s a 24-hour, 365-day a year mission to provide excellent service to our Customers.”

By 11 p.m., the gas leak was fixed and the job was finished. Gregg had heat for the night, proving that your safety is our mission.

“I was astonished because I was thinking he would just take the order and have someone come out,” Gregg said. “That meter was really hard to get out. I stayed out there with him. He was like a dog with a bone. He would not let up until that meter was changed out
and done properly.”

Gregg has had CoServ electric service for about 30 years, including at his previous house in Flower Mound. He’s had gas service since moving to Lantana 10 years ago.

“CoServ delivers on their promise,” said Gregg, who has been in the IT industry for 25 years, including working with utilities. “It’s something we never have to worry about. You have a whole core of people behind the scenes, monitoring the systems. I see all that working, and I appreciate good service.”

While there are some instances where competition is welcome, Gregg said he appreciates the cooperative model for essential services like electricity. That includes the Capital Credit Retirements he receives as a bill credit in August.

“I love the construct. It’s money from heaven. Things that you didn’t anticipate,” Gregg said. “I’ve never been in a business relationship where I get money back from just my daily activity. I didn’t have to work for it, and I didn’t have to do anything special.”

As a cooperative, it means every response, every repair and every late-night service call is guided by a commitment to putting Members first. For Gregg, that commitment meant staying warm on a cold January night. For CoServ Employees, it’s simply part
of the mission.
