Don’t Let a Scrooge Ruin the Holidays
FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO EASILY BUST A SCAMMER
The holidays are a busy time filled with family and food. Unfortunately, scammers have been known to exploit that, using any means necessary to deceive people into thinking their electricity or natural gas will be disconnected.
- Remain calm. Don’t let the scammers urgency force you to make a rash decision.
- Report the scammer to your local law enforcement agency and CoServ.
- If SmartHub does show a past-due balance or a disconnection notice, call CoServ Customer Care at 940-321-7800.
TIP: Save this number in your phone so you will always call the correct phone number, not a fake one the scammers may have provided.
REMEMBER, COSERV WILL NEVER:
- Call about a past-due balance one hour before disconnection.
- Request that a past-due balance be paid via pre-paid gift card or mobile payment apps like Zelle, Cash App, etc.
IF SOMEONE SHOWS UP AT YOUR DOOR, IT’S EASY TO CONFIRM IF THEY ARE COSERV EMPLOYEES BECAUSE THEY:
- Will have a CoServ badge that's clearly visible.
- Will be wearing CoServ branded gear like a hat, hard hat or shirt.
- Will be driving a CoServ-branded vehicle.
