CoServ Presentations

CoServ’s Academic Initiatives bring dynamic, age-appropriate presentations to schools across the communities we serve. Designed to complement Texas classroom learning, many of our educational and outreach programs are TEKS-aligned, helping students build essential knowledge and apply it in the real world.

From electricity and natural gas safety to hands-on circuit-building classes and interactive games that promote critical thinking, our programs engage students while reinforcing key academic concepts. These educational experiences have reached thousands of students across North Texas.

We also provide specialized training for first responders, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to safely respond to electric and natural gas emergencies.

Circuit Building Lab POWERRace Magnetic Builders Gravity Maze Indi Cars

Circuit Building Lab

Students participate in engaging, hands-on learning experience as they explore electricity by building simple, series, and parallel circuits. This lab is an excellent prep tool for the STARR test while reinforcing key science concepts. Each student will use their own circuit kit to: Build a simple switched circuit, Construct a series circuit, create a parallel circuit.

Real-world examples and experiments are included with each activity to help students understand both the limitations and potential of the circuits they create.

POWERRace

This giant tabletop board game introduces students to how electric infrastructure is built and what it takes to power a community.

Classrooms are divided into four teams who compete to build powerlines and deliver electricity to the town’s buildings. Starting with zero infrastructure, students must work together to plan and construct the system needed to power the community.

Magnetic Builders

Students are guided through progressively challenging activities that teach them how to manipulate 2D shapes into 3D creations. Students work individually with their own set of tiles; suitable for up to 12 students at a time.

Appropriate Age: Kindergarten – 2nd grade
Duration: 30 – 45 min

Gravity Maze

Gravity Maze

In the Gravity Maze Presentation, students work in groups of 2-4 and use gravity to guide a marble through a maze to reach a target destination. Gravity maze introduces concepts such as potential energy, pathways, conductors, and open and closed circuits.

Duration: 45-60 min

Indi Cars

Students work in groups of 2-4 and learn to “program” an Indy Car to get from point A to point B. The car changes direction, speeds up, or slows down depending on the color of the blocks it drives over. Success requires placing the correct colors on the path, so the car follows the intended route.

Arcing Demo:

Our Energy Education Specialists deliver a dynamic and safe demonstration showing what can happen when different objects come into contact with high-voltage electricity. This presentation teaches the fundamentals of electrical safety in simple, age-appropriate terms that children can easily understand.

Please note: This is an outdoor presentation that is performed on pavement.

CoServ is a great place to work, with many diverse careers and areas of expertise. Invite one of our employees to speak with your students about their role and how they began their career with CoServ!

Our Career Day Presentation can be customized to fit your needs - either as an introduction to CoServ and the wide range of positions within the company, or with a specific focus on the role of a Lineman.

Gas Demo

Gas Demo:

This engaging and informative presentation helps audiences better understand the role of natural gas in daily life and how to stay safe.

During the demo, CoServ Gas Technicians explain how natural gas is safely delivered from storage to homes, along with the safety systems in place to protect the community. This presentation covers educational facts about natural gas and the gas industry and what to do if you smell gas (mercaptan).

The Experience Trailer

The CoServ Experience Trailer is an immersive, hands-on experience for all grades and teaches students about the electric utility industry in a way that’s fun and educational. The trailer has gear that is used by linemen on a day-to-day basis, real hardware that is installed on powerlines. Kids will be able to try on industrial-strength gloves and hard hats, and learn about equipment that keeps linemen safe during their work.

For the CoServ Experience Trailer, we must be able to park the trailer in about 11 parking spaces of room.
