Gas Burner Color Change

Every winter, CoServ receives calls from concerned Gas Customers in regards to a color change on their gas range flames.

A common reason for this is because the Customer has been using a humidifier in the house. Humidifiers change the air quality in the house, which can change the color of the natural gas flame. It can even do this if the humidifier is in another room.

There is no need to panic. This is completely normal and Gas Customers can continue using all their gas appliances. The flames will revert back to blue if the humidifier hasn’t been used for a few days.

This phenomenon occurs because water molecules contain calcium and sodium deposits. When those deposits burn on a natural gas flame, they cause it to turn orange.
